Methodology
Evaluation methodology.
A 100-point rubric across six weighted criteria, applied uniformly through a single testing protocol. Documented in full to permit independent verification of every published score.
The rubric
Every application appearing in a review or comparison is evaluated against the same six criteria. The weights assigned to each criterion are fixed across publications so that scores remain directly comparable between titles and over time.
Accuracy
25%Discrepancy between logged values and lab-verified nutrition for a fixed 50-meal panel.
Database breadth
20%Coverage of branded, restaurant, generic, and international foods across 600 search probes.
Logging speed
20%Median time to log a known meal via search, barcode, photo, and voice on iOS and Android.
Macro & micronutrients
15%Granularity and editability of macro/micronutrient targets, including fiber and sodium.
Day-to-day UX
10%Friction across week-long live use: navigation, defaults, recovery from mistakes, accessibility.
Value for money
10%Subscription price relative to feature parity with the median tested app.
Testing protocol
The full testing protocol — including meal panels, search probe lists, accuracy procedures, and accessibility checks — will be published in this section alongside the initial review cohort. The protocol is governed by the same versioning discipline as the rubric: each revision is dated and recorded in full, with no silent modifications to historical text.
